Quick answer (checked November 6, 2026): The cheapest time to fly to Las Vegas is January. It is KAYAK’s lowest monthly median on eight of the nine US routes we checked, including $108 round trip from Los Angeles, $254 from Chicago and $322 from New York. Atlanta’s low is February ($285). The cheapest month for a whole trip is often August, when Strip hotels averaged $153 a night. Avoid CES, January 6 to 9, 2027, and book about 5 to 14 weeks ahead.

Search for the cheapest month to fly to Las Vegas and you will see December, August, October and January, often on the same results page. Part of the reason is method, because one low fare and a typical fare measure different things. The other part is that a flight is only half of what a Vegas trip costs.

This guide puts KAYAK’s monthly medians for nine US gateways next to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority’s hotel rates, then adds them up for three nights for two people. All figures were checked on November 6, 2026.

The peaks are less uniform. July is the top from Los Angeles, Dallas and Atlanta, May from San Francisco and Seattle, and October from Denver, Chicago, New York and Boston. So October is not the bargain some guides suggest. August is the quiet second chance: it drops to $191 from Denver and $256 from Dallas, well below July and September on both routes.

The Catch: Vegas Hotels Run on a Different Calendar

January is cheap to fly but not cheap to stay. The LVCVA’s monthly figures put the Strip at $215 a night in January 2026 and $207 in February, against $165 in June, $167 in July and $153 in August. The highs came in May ($225), March ($223) and October 2025 ($220). The summer dip is a pattern, not a one-off: in 2025 the Strip fell to $165 in July.

$86per night, DowntownDowntown costs far lessDowntown averaged $86 in August and $111 in May, roughly half the Strip’s rate.
$45–$55resort fee per nightAdd fees and taxOur resort fees guide lists 2026 Strip fees, plus about 13% tax. FTC rules require the mandatory fees in the advertised price.

Here is what that means for a real trip. We combined KAYAK’s Chicago medians with the Strip average for two people and three nights, before taxes and resort fees.

Month 2 flights Strip rate 3 nights Trip total
August $636 $153 $459 $1,095
January $508 $215 $645 $1,153
June $706 $165 $495 $1,201
February $596 $207 $621 $1,217
May $694 $225 $675 $1,369
October $736 $220 $660 $1,396

Our calculation from KAYAK medians (November 6, 2026) and LVCVA Strip rates for January to September 2026 and October to December 2025. Monthly averages mix luxury and budget hotels, so use the gaps between months rather than the totals.

Across all twelve months, August is lowest and October highest, a gap of about $300. Distance changes the result. From Los Angeles, where flights are cheap anyway, August ($827) only just beats February ($837). From New York, January and August tie at $1,289. If your room is free or comped, chase the January fare. If you are paying for it, summer often wins.

Calendar

The Las Vegas Price Calendar at a Glance

The cheapest month opens with one of the busiest weeks. CES runs January 6 to 9, 2027. EDC Las Vegas takes two weekends in 2027, May 14 to 16 and May 21 to 23. The Las Vegas Grand Prix is November 19 to 21, 2026, and the National Finals Rodeo is December 3 to 12, 2026. We have no reliable rates for those exact weeks, so compare them with the week before or after.

How-to

How to Find the Cheapest Flight to Las Vegas, Step by Step

  1. Start after CES. Search mid-January through February as a whole month, not fixed dates. The long weekends around January 18 and February 15, 2027 may price higher than the weeks around them.
  2. Book in your route’s window. KAYAK’s best point is 5 weeks out from Los Angeles, 6 from Atlanta, 9 from Dallas and Chicago, 11 from San Francisco, 12 from Seattle, New York and Boston, and 14 from Denver. That saved 33% to 51% over booking within two weeks of departure.
  3. Move your departure day. Monday is cheapest from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Dallas and Chicago. From Los Angeles it averages $113, against $182 on Friday. Saturday wins from Atlanta and New York, Sunday from Seattle and Tuesday from Boston.
  4. Add the extras before comparing. Our airline baggage fees comparison shows what a bag adds to a low fare. For more on timing, read our guide to the cheapest day to buy airline tickets.

Is the Cheapest Month Also a Good Month to Visit?

Mid-January – FebruaryLowest fares and normal highs of 59°F to 63°F, but Strip rates above $200.
June – AugustLowest hotel rates, with midweek occupancy down to 69.4% in August, but highs up to 105°F.

The National Weather Service lists normal highs of 58.5°F in January, 78.5°F in April, 104.5°F in July and 81.2°F in October. So the mild days cost more: May and October are among the priciest months for hotels. Heat matters less if your plans are pools, shows and casinos, and more if you want to walk the Strip or hike.

A Cool-Season Day Trip: Red Rock Canyon

Mild winter days suit a trip out of town. Red Rock Canyon is 17 miles west of the Strip, with a 13-mile one-way scenic drive. From October 1 to May 31 you need a timed reservation through Recreation.gov for entry between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., plus an entry fee. You will need a car, so see our Las Vegas car rental guide.

Money-Saving Tips for Your Las Vegas Trip

  • Stay midweek. In September, Las Vegas hotels were 73.1% full midweek and 89.8% full on weekends, so midweek rooms are the ones hotels need to fill.
  • Look Downtown. Its September average of $96 compares with $185 on the Strip.
  • Compare totals, not rates. Three nights of resort fees can add $135 to $165. For one Strip resort in detail, see our Cosmopolitan hotel guide.
  • Try December from the West Coast. The Los Angeles median falls to $124 in December, against $213 in July.
  • Lock the hotel on its own schedule. Our guide to the best time to book hotels covers when to reserve and when to wait.
  • Price the package too. Bundles do not always win, so read whether vacation packages are worth it and compare both totals.
