Things to do in and around Antalya

- Kaleiçi: the walled old town, with Hadrian’s Gate, the Yivli Minaret, the clock tower and the old harbor. Free to walk.
- Düden Waterfalls: the Lower Düden falls drop straight into the sea and can be seen free from the cliff park or from a harbor boat trip. Upper Düden is a park with a small entry fee for foreign visitors.
- Antalya Museum: one of Turkey’s best archaeological collections, reachable by tram.
- Aspendos: the best-preserved Roman theater in Turkey, about 45 minutes east. Entry about €15.
- Perge: a large Roman city near the airport. Entry about €11.
- Side: a beach town with the Temple of Apollo on the sea.
- Termessos: mountain-top ruins in a national park, best by car.
Many hotels sell day tours to Perge, Aspendos and Side from about €50, often without entry fees. With a rental car you can do the same route on your own schedule.
Car rental in Antalya
A car is the best way to see the region: Aspendos, Side, Termessos, the coast road west to Kemer, Olympos and Kaş, and on to Fethiye. Inside the city, trams and taxis are easier.
What it costs: at Antalya airport, DiscoverCars showed an average of about $28–29 a day across the year, with deals from about $19. By month: about $21 in January, $27 in April and May, $32 in June, $49 in July and $54 in August (updated October 29, 2026). The very lowest teaser prices come from small local suppliers; check the reviews, deposit and insurance before choosing the cheapest.
Driving tips
- Bring your US license and an International Driving Permit.
- Toll motorways use electronic tolls (HGS); ask how your rental company bills them.
- Full-to-full fuel is usually cheapest; check the credit card deposit.
- Parking in Kaleiçi is very limited; choose a hotel with parking or leave the car outside the old town.
Getting around without a car
- Airport to city: the AntRay tram line and city buses connect the airport with the center; taxis and transfers take about 20–30 minutes.
- In the city: trams and buses use the AntalyaKart; the nostalgic tram runs along the seafront near Kaleiçi.
When to go
May, June, September and October offer warm sea, fewer crowds and lower prices. July and August are very hot and the most expensive, also for rental cars. Winter is mild and cheap but many beach resorts close. Our off-season price test shows how much timing matters for hotels.
