Short answer: a 5-star hotel by the sea in Dubrovnik is realistic on a mid-range budget if you go in May. For May 12–15, 2027, the cheapest options started at $719 for 3 nights (about $240 per night). In July, the same hotels cost 16–148% more. The best value we found was Sun Gardens Dubrovnik, which rose only 16% in July.

What this shows: May is the sweet spot. The sea is usually warm enough for a swim by late May, and several 5-star hotels cost around $240–310 per night. In July you pay up to two and a half times as much for the same room.
Which area fits you?
- Lapad and Babin Kuk: most of the 5-star hotels by the sea, with a seaside promenade and beaches nearby. About 10–15 minutes by bus or taxi to the Old Town.
- Next to the Old Town (Ploče): Excelsior and Bellevue. Walk to the city walls, but higher prices.
- Outside town (Orašac, Srebreno): Sun Gardens and Sheraton. More resort feeling and space, but you will need a bus, taxi or shuttle to see the Old Town.
About the beaches: Dubrovnik’s beaches are mostly pebbles, rocks and concrete sun decks, not sand. Check each hotel’s description for a private beach area, sunbed fees and water shoes.
