The Barceló Tenerife Royal Level is the 5-star “hotel within a hotel” of the large Barceló Tenerife resort in the south of Tenerife. You pay more than for a standard room in the same resort, and in return you get a separate wing with its own pool, restaurant and lounge service. Here is what it really costs, what you get for the money and who it suits.
Quick facts
- Location: Urbanización San Blas, San Miguel de Abona, south Tenerife, next to the San Blas nature reserve and a small beach
- Airport: Tenerife South (TFS) is only about 3 km away, roughly a 10-minute drive
- Golf: Golf del Sur is about 2–3 km away
- Size: about 59 Royal Level rooms and suites inside a resort of more than 300 rooms
- Check-in / check-out: from 15:00 / until 12:00
- Guest rating: about 8.4/10 on Trip.com and 8.8/10 for facilities on Booking.com (as of October 2026)

Source: Trip.com, 2 adults, 1 room, 7 nights, pay-at-hotel rates with free cancellation, checked October 30, 2026. Prepaid rates were only $8–17 higher in total. Summer 2027 dates were not yet bookable.
What stands out:
- Half board is the best value. It adds only about $156 for the whole week for two people, roughly $11 per person per dinner.
- All inclusive costs about $1,300 more than breakfast only for a week. That is around $95 per person per day, so it only pays off if you eat and drink most meals at the hotel.
- The sea view adds only about $156 for the week. On a winter-sun trip, that is often worth it.
For comparison, Time Out lists standard rooms in the main Barceló Tenerife resort from about €136 and Royal Level rooms from about €265 a night. Expect the Royal Level to cost roughly twice as much as a standard room in the same resort.
What you get with Royal Level
- An exclusive Royal Level pool with sun loungers and, according to reviews and Time Out, waiter service. Royal Level guests can also use the resort’s seven other pools, including a heated one and a children’s pool.
- A separate Royal Level restaurant for breakfast and dinner (Mediterranean, Spanish and international), plus access to the resort’s other restaurants and bars. Breakfast is one of the best-rated parts of the stay (9.2/10 on Booking.com).
- Rooms with balconies, many with sea views. The basic Deluxe Room is about 355 sq ft (33 m²).
- Spa and fitness: a wellness center (treatments cost extra) and gym, shared with the wider resort.
- Activities: tennis, table tennis, evening entertainment, cycling and hiking in the nature reserve.
The honest downsides
- Aircraft noise. Being 3 km from the airport is great for arrival day, but planes are visible and audible from parts of the resort.
- It is a big resort. The Royal Level wing is quiet, but the shared areas, gym and spa are used by guests of the whole resort.
- You are a bit isolated. The beach nearby is small, and the bigger resorts of Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje are about 20–30 minutes away by car.
- Adults only or not? Booking.com lists a minimum check-in age of 18, but some reviews mention families staying there. If a child-free stay matters to you, confirm with the hotel before booking.
Getting there from the US
There are currently no nonstop flights from the US to Tenerife on our dates. We checked round trips for February 4–11, 2027:
- Newark (EWR) – Tenerife South: from $895 with one stop (TAP Air Portugal via Lisbon)
- Chicago (ORD) – Tenerife South: from $927 with one or two stops
From the airport, a taxi takes about 10–15 minutes. The hotel also offers a paid shuttle, and there is a bus to the San Blas stop about 650 m from the hotel. You can also pre-book an airport transfer.
Do you need a rental car?
Not for a pure pool-and-beach week. But Tenerife is worth exploring: Mount Teide, the Masca valley and the north coast are all a day trip away. Renting a car for a few days is usually cheaper than organized tours for two people.
Who should book it (and who should not)
A good fit if you: want a quiet, comfortable winter-sun week with good food, do not want to drive far after a long flight, play golf, or like the infrastructure of a big resort without its noise.
Probably not for you if you: want a lively beach town with restaurants on your doorstep, are sensitive to aircraft noise, or want the lowest possible price. A standard room in the same resort costs about half.
Total cost example: one week for two
- Flights from Newark: 2 × $895 = $1,790
- Deluxe Room, half board, 7 nights: $2,663
- Transfers, a 3-day rental car and extras: about $400 (estimate)
- Total: about $4,850 for two, or about $2,425 per person
